The On-line Electrical Permit Application System allows electrical contractors to create and pay for new permit applications and search existing applications and permits for timely status information.

To access the system, you must register. In order to register, you must be a licensed electrical contractor in good standing with the BC Safety Authority. PIN numbers were mailed out to known contractors who met these requirements.

Registration, Logging In and Passwords

Registration

  1. To register for this system, enter your Electrical Contractor License Number and PIN, then click on the 'REGISTER' button. Please be patient while the system processes your request; it may take some time.
  2. Once your Electrical Contractor License Number and PIN have been validated, you will be directed to your Personal Information page to update your information, and then returned to the Welcome page to Log In . Enter the letters in your email address in lower case only.
  3. If you try to register with an invalid Electrical Contractor License Number or an invalid PIN you will receive an error message.
  4. If you attempt to register using an Electrical Contractor License Number and PIN that already exists, you will receive an error message.

Log In

  1. To Log In , enter your email address in the correct format xxx@xxx.xxx and then enter your password. The letters in your email address must be in lower case only.
  2. If you enter an email address that is not registered, you will receive an error message.
  3. If you enter an incorrect password you will receive an error message.

Forgotten Passwords

  1. From the Welcome screen, select "If you have forgotten your password please click here "
  2. Enter your Email Address, Security Hint and Security Answer, and hit CONTINUE.
  3. Upon verification by City staff, a new password will be sent to you via email.
  4. If you have forgotten your password and your security answer, you will have to come to the Building Division's front counter in City Hall to be re-instated in the system. Your Contractor License and photo ID will be required.

PIN Numbers

  1. The PIN numbers were mailed out to known electrical contractors in good standing. If you feel you meet these requirements and have not received a PIN number, please contact us.

Update Personal Information

All fields on the Personal Information screen are mandatory. They are required to maintain our security.

  1. Enter your email address, password, confirm password, choose a security hint and then enter the security hint answer - select "Continue" to return to the Welcome page or "Cancel"
  2. Your email address must be unique. If an email address that matches yours already exists in the system, you will be prompted with an error.
  3. If your email address changes, you must log in with the original email address and then change it.

Contractor Verification

The Contractor Verification Page is to confirm your company has an electrical contractor in good standing. By continuing with this process you are confirming that your certification is currently valid. If this turns out to not be the case, your permit application may be affected.

Main Menu

The main menu will direct you to all other areas of the On-line Permitting website.

Apply for an Electrical Permit

To apply for an electrical permit select 'Apply for an 'Electrical Permit' on the Main Menu page.

Upon selecting this option the Permit Type, Sub-Type and Work Proposed page will be displayed.

Permit Type, Sub-Type and Work Proposed

  1. Select the Type of Permit you are applying for from the options available in the drop down list.
  2. Select the Sub-type from the types of buildings or installations available in the drop down list.
  3. In the Work Proposed, select the item that best describes the electrical work to be performed.
  4. Select "Continue" to go to the Permit Details page to enter more information on your permit.
    Select "Cancel Application" if you have created this application in error.

Permit Details

  1. Enter Property - e nter the address (or an approximate location, if no legal address)
  2. Enter Contact Information; include name and contact numbers of persons specific to the project.
  3. Select Scope of Work from the available options
  4. Select Sub-Categories from the available options
  5. If you selected a Work Proposed that included Electrical Services, you will be asked to enter the required Electrical Service details
    Enter Ampacity, Voltage and Type of Service (overhead, underground, etc)
  6. Enter description - Please provide any other details to make sure the scope of your application is accurately captured. This is important, particularly if you are doing only a portion of the overall electrical work at the site.
  7. Enter Total Job Value - Please enter the value of the installation contract. [To include all labour and materials] [Materials supplied by the owner are to be included at market value] - IF APPLICABLE
  8. Select "Save and Calculate Fee" to continue with the application process
    Select "Cancel Application" if you have created this application in error

Permit Application Confirmation

Once you select "Save and Calculate Fee" from the Permit Details page the Permit Application Confirmation page will be displayed.

  1. Review all of the data
  2. If you wish to Edit or Cancel the application select the "Edit" button displayed at the bottom of the page.
  3. If you wish to Accept the Application, select "Accept" to continue to the My Permit Applications page.

Edit Permit Application

  1. The "Edit" button, accessed from either the Permit Application Confirmation page or from the My Permit Applications page will take you to the Edit Permit Application page. This page will display the information you entered into the Permit Details page and allow you to modify it.
  2. You are not able to modify the Permit Type, Sub-Type and Work Proposed. If you had made errors in the Permit Type, Sub-Type or Work Proposed, you may select the "Cancel Application" button from the bottom of this page and start a new application.

My Permit Applications

My Permit Applications page displays a list of all your active permits or permit applications that have not yet reached " Final Acceptance " status.

The permit applications have various statuses that are described below.

The permit application is newly created and has not been submitted with payment.
These permit applications can be edited prior to submitting.

The permit application has been submitted with payment and is ready to be reviewed by City staff.

These permit applications can be viewed but not revised.

The permit application is being reviewed by City staff.

These permit applications can be viewed but not revised.

The permit application has been processed and approved by City staff.
These permit applications can be viewed but not revised.

The permit application has been put on hold by City staff.

Please view the permit for further details as to why the permit is on Hold.

From the My Permit Applications page you can:

  1. Edit a Permit Application - Permit Applications with a status of Web-Not Paid will have an "Edit" button beside them. Click on the "Edit" button to modify this permit application.
  2. Submit for Payment - To select permit application(s) for payment, click in the checkbox under the Select for Payment column, then click on the "Submit for Payment" button.
  3. Apply for Permit - To create another permit application, select this option.
  4. Search My Permits - To search all in-active permits that have reached 'Final Acceptance' status, select the option.

View an Application

  1. To view an application - navigate to the My Permit Applications page
  2. If the permit application has been submitted for payment - select the "View" button next to the application.
  3. If the permit application has not yet been paid - select the "Edit" button next to the application.

Cancelling an Application

  1. You are able to cancel an application that has not yet been paid.
  2. When you first create the application, you are able select the "Cancel Application" button from the Permit Type, Sub-Type and Work Proposed page.
  3. If you have continued to the Permit Details page, you are also able to select the "Cancel Application" button from this page.
  4. If you have Accepted the permit application and it is displayed in your list under the My Permit Applications page, you can select the "Edit" button beside the application and then select "Cancel Application" from the Edit Permit Application page.

Submit Payment

From the My Permit Applications page, you may select permits for payment.

  1. Click in the checkbox under the Select for Payment column to select one or more permit applications for payment.
  2. When you have selected the required permit applications, select the "Submit for Payment" button.

Submit Payment Page

  1. Once you select "Submit for Payment" button the Submit Payment page will be displayed.
  2. If you have made an error and wish to reselect your permit application(s), select the "CANCEL" button.
  3. To continue with payment and be directed to a Credit Card transaction site, select "CONTINUE".

Credit Card Transaction site

On the Credit Card Transaction site:

  1. Enter the name on the credit card
  2. Enter the Credit Card #
  3. Enter the expiry date
  4. When complete - press "Process Transaction" to move on to the Payment Receipt page. If you need to cancel the payment, press "Log Out"; for security reasons, you will be logged out of the application if you choose to cancel.

Payment Receipt page

Once payment is complete a Payment receipt page will be displayed.

  1. You may select the "Print Receipt" button to print a copy for your records.
  2. Once you have printed your receipt select the "My Permit Applications" button to return to the My Permit Applications page where you can view the status of your application as it is reviewed and updated.

Search Permits

You may access the Search My Permits page from the Main Menu page or from the My Permit Applications page. From the Search My Permits page you are able to search your permits that have attained Final Acceptance status, by:

    Search by Permit #

Type in the existing permit number, then click Go . If the permit number is valid, the system will display the permit.

Type in the date in the format MMM D, YYYY or click on and select the required date. Once you have specified a date, click Go . The Search Results page will be displayed listing all of the permits that were issued on the date you specified.
